Meridian 59:Unity
A downloadable game for Windows
A modern remake of Meridian 59, the original 3D MMORPG
Launched in 1996, it was one of the first graphical online worlds, and it built a community that still plays today. This remake rebuilds that world from the ground up in full 3D. It keeps the systems that made the original so memorable and expands them for a new generation of players.
The original world of Meridian 59
- A world of rival towns. Explore the land of Meridian, from the bustling city of Tos to Barloque, Cor Noth, Marion and Jasper.
- Classless progression. No fixed classes. Build your character how you like, with spells from 6 different spell schools.
- Player-versus-player combat. Open PvP lets players fight one another almost anywhere, systems such as faction wars and guild battles as forms of lawful combat, and severe consequences for unprovoked attacks on the innocent.
- Justice and reputation. Attacking innocents brands a player as an outlaw or a murderer, with visible status and real consequences.
- Guilds and guild halls. Players form guilds, rank their members, claim guild halls and declare war on rivals.
- Political factions. Players can pledge themselves to the Duke, the Princess or the rebels and take part in the struggle for control of Meridian.
What’s New in Meridian 59: Unity
A seamless open world. The original’s separate rooms and zones become one continuous world. Players can walk from the gates of Barloque to the mountains of Jasper as a seemless experience.
Full 3D graphics and animation. Rebuilt with modern environments, high-definition textures based on the originals, and fully animated characters and creatures. The world looks new, but stays familiar to longtime players.
Expanded guild warfare. Guild wars become a central part of the game. Fight for prestige, with power ranking system and an expanded guild system that allows guilds to vassalise other guilds, either politically or by force. Vassals send prestige upstream to their overlords, whilst benefiting from the protection of their masters, whilst overlords benefit from passive power ranking as they receive a portion of all that which is received by their vassals. Be careful though; vassals can secede from their masters, causing a war of indepedence should they become too powerful (or ally with others, who support their independence)
A deeper justice system. Crime and punishment go beyond a name colour. Reputation, bounties and consequences let communities police themselves and make lawlessness a real choice with real costs.
Play as a bard. A built-in music synthesiser lets players compose and perform live in-game. Bards can busk in the town square, play in taverns, guild halls, or suport their allies in battle.
Built-in voice chat. Players can coordinate raids, negotiate truces or simply talk with others nearby without leaving the game.
Social tools. A party system makes grouping up easy. A friends list helps you keep track of the people you adventure with. Custom guild emblems let every guild fly its own colours.
Revamped PvE Encounters. Bring your friends and engage in boss battles for a more epic PvE encounter, with enhanced AI and new mechanics.
